Limpopo police commissioner condemns arson: Alleged killer’s house and car torched
The SAPS urged communities to report any acts of criminality to the SAPS.
The Limpopo SAPS commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has strongly condemned the torching of a house and vehicle in Shushumela Mabitleng in Praktiseer on Saturday, February 22.
The arson occurred after the murder of a man in the village.
“At about 19:30, the police were at the community service centre when a man and a woman from Shushumela Mabitleng came to report an incident of a fight between them and another man near a tavern in Shushumela. The man said he stabbed the other man with a sharp object and he was taken to a local clinic,” said Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the Limpopo police spokesperson, in a statement.

He added: “The police rushed to the clinic to investigate the matter. On their arrival, the nurse confirmed that the victim had passed away due to his injury. The deceased had an open wound to his upper left body.”
The suspect was arrested after allegedly confessing to engaging in the fight and stabbing the victim.
“A 43-year-old suspect is expected to appear in the Praktiseer Magistrate’s Court to face a charge of murder soon.”
Ledwaba said when the community members received the information that the victim had died, they regrouped themselves and proceeded to the alleged stabber’s home. They burnt his house and a vehicle that was parked in the garage.
Hadebe has strongly condemned the torching of the house and directed an investigation team to hunt down the responsible community members.
“No one is allowed to take the law into his or her own hands. Any act of criminality should be reported to the police,” said Hadebe.
