UPDATE: Woman killed with an axe, case postponed
A 41-year-old will remain in custody for the murder of his kids’ mother.
Simanga Custen Kamanga (41) appeared in the Nkomazi Magistrate’s Court today facing murder charges. He is accused of the brutal murder of the mother of his two kids, Nhloniphile Ntombi Maseko (31).
According to a provincial police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane, the matter was postponed to May 20 for formal bail application. Ndubane said the suspect will remain in custody. Kamanga and Maseko were involved in a heated argument on Tuesday during which the accused allegedly attacked the victim with an axe, resulting in fatal injuries.
“After the attack, the suspect allegedly left her body in the street. Police and other relevant stakeholders were called to the scene. A swift investigation led to the suspect’s arrest,” Ndubane said.

The acting provincial police commissioner, Major General Dr Zeph Mkhwanazi, strongly condemned this inhumane act. He urged members of the community to seek help when experiencing domestic or relationship problems rather than resorting to violence.
He emphasised that gender-based violence and femicide remain a serious threat to the safety and well-being of women and children in our communities.
