Missing girl update: A month of scouring the Crocodile River in Mbombela

Aqhama Mconywa has been missing for more than a month.

The Mpumalanga police said the search for the three-year-old Aqhama Mconywa in the Crocodile River in Schagen is still ongoing.

The Ehlanzeni Police Diving Unit have been scouring the river from Schagen since the evening of April 13. Despite challenges, such as not being able to dive into the river due to an overpopulation of crocodiles and hippos, the unit has searched up to Mataffin looking for the little girl.

The Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane, has affirmed that the missing person’s case is still active and the diving unit is still searching.

At the end of April, the unit obtained a new search and rescue boat, a Hovercraft, for the search. The boat is designed for rescues in muddy and shallow waters, making it perfect for the Crocodile River.

Ndubane said drones and the K9 Unit were deployed without luck.
