Three people die in a fiery collision on the R23

The victims have not yet been identified.

A woman and a two men have become the latest road accident victims after two vehicles collided head-on along the R23 between Val and Balfour today (Tuesday May 27).

The victims were burnt beyond recognition after both vehicles ignited on impact.

“The accident happened around 12:30. The occupant in the sedan was a female driver and the two males were in the light delivery van. The victims were burnt beyond recognition,” said Moeti Mmusi, the spokesperson for the department of community safety, security and liaison in Mpumalanga.

“The cause of the crash is yet to be established. Emergency personnel attended the scene of the crash,” added Mmusi.

He said the victims’ identities remain unknown at this stage, but ongoing investigations are expected to confirm who they were.
