It is unclear what caused the jogger to be hit by the car, but an investigation is under way.
A female jogger was killed on the R40 near the turn-off to the University of Mpumalanga on Wednesday, May 28.
According to Moeti Mmusi, the spokesperson for the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security, and Liaison, the victim was jogging when she was hit by a car.
The cause of the accident is unknown at this stage and an investigation is under way. The identity of the jogger cannot be released until her family members have been notified of her death.

“The section of the road in question gets busy in the mornings and so pedestrians and joggers should always cross only when it’s safe to do so. I am also calling on motorists to be on the lookout for pedestrians and joggers, especially in the mornings,” Mmusi said.

Due to the accident, traffic was congested, resulting in motorists driving in oncoming traffic. Emergency personnel were at the scene and monitoring the situation.
Mmusi also said they have requested Sanral to upgrade the intersection since a traffic light will not work due to the road being on a steep descent. “We are waiting for a response from Sanral because it will ease the traffic during peak hours,” concluded Mmusi.
