Hazyview Rugby club elects first chairwoman

The new chairwoman has vast experience in the rugby industry and brings a fresh outlook to the club.

Kitty le Grange was elected as the first female chairperson of the Hazyview Rugby Club.

She was elected after the previous chairperson resigned. She brought with her the experience she gained over the past eight years as secretary of the club.

Le Grange said her team have proved that they can deliver as they recently managed to secure a number of sponsorships, resulting in a highly motivated team.

“I believe I was not elected because I was part of the team and we have the same vision, but because I know rugby and understand the rules. This shows that women can lead a male-dominated industry to success,” she said.

After her election, Le Grange and other board members’ immediate mandate was to find sponsors.

“The team did not have a score board, but during the short time we have been in office, we have secured one. We also received desperately needed new kits. A number of local businesses agreed to be part of the team through sponsorships. It has motivated the boys to excel on the field. Everyone on board worked hard to ensure we received the necessities for the team,” she said.

Le Grange said women are needed to shake up the rugby industry with a different viewpoint. “We can come up with good ideas that will grow the sport.”

Her dream is to have a Hazyview female rugby team as in other areas where they are hugely successful. “We have hidden talent in our small town, they just need a platform. With the team I am working with, I am sure it is going to happen,” she said.
