The City of Mbombela will not tolerate lawlessness.

The City of Mbombela (CoM) is aware of a video circulating on social media showing a man resisting lawful arrest by traffic law enforcement officials in KaBokweni.

In the footage, the man can be heard asking bystanders to film his arrest.

“On Saturday, June 7, traffic officers were on duty when they observed a vehicle failing to stop at a red traffic light in KaBokweni,” said CoM spokesperson, Joseph Ngala.

“When stopped, the driver refused to produce a driver’s licence or any form of identification. The vehicle was also found to be unroadworthy.”

Ngala said the officers instructed the man to hand over the vehicle’s keys so it could be impounded, as permitted by the National Road Traffic Act (Act 93 of 1996).

However, the driver resisted arrest.

“Further charges are being considered against the driver. We urge the public to comply with road rules and regulations at all times,” Ngala said.

“We condemn the behaviour of the motorist. While we remain committed to serving the community with respect and dignity. We will not shy away from enforcing the law.”

The matter is currently being handled by the KaBokweni police.
