Fetakgomo Tubatse bids farewell to beloved ward councillor

Lennox Thobela will be remembered for his commitment to development, co-operation with fellow councillors and passion for sports.

Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality’s (FTLM) Ward 34 councillor, Lennox Thobela, was laid to rest on Saturday, June 21.
From Bogalatladi Village, Thobela passed away on June 11 after a short illness.
Speaking at the funeral, FTLM’s mayor, Eddie Maila, said his untimely death is a great loss to the community of Ward 34 and the entire Fetakgomo Tubatse.

“Thobela was an asset and a servant of the people and many things were still expected from him.”
Maila described him as a dedicated community leader who shaped the lives of many people, especially the youth.
“He led many structures for development in the village and it came as no surprise when he was elected the ward councillor in 2019 and also in the 2021 local government elections.”

The mayor called on other councillors to emulate Thobela’s spirit and serve their communities with pride and compassion.

He called upon everyone to pray and give comfort to Thobela’s family during this difficult period.

In addition to serving as a ward councillor, Thobela also chaired the FTLM’s Infrastructure Development and Technical Services Portfolio, where his leadership was evident in the oversight of infrastructure project implementation.

He will be remembered for his commitment to development, co-operation with fellow councillors and passion for sports.

Lennox Thobela was buried on June 21.

The Sekhukhune District Municipality’s (SDM) executive mayor, Minah Bahula, delivered a eulogy on behalf of the Limpopo government.

Thobela’s funeral was attended by several dignitaries, including National Assembly member and chairperson of the Home Affairs Portfolio Committee, Musa Chabane, as well as Limpopo Legislature member and chairperson of the Education Portfolio Committee, Rodgers Monama.
