The Power of 8000 drives effort for a cleaner White River
The City of Mbombela will assist by emptying the skips, while The Power of 8000 will monitor the sites.
The Power of 8000 (TPO8000) Community Action Group has recently placed two new skips at key rubbish hotspots on the outskirts of White River – a significant step in residents’ ongoing efforts to keep public spaces clean and more sustainable.
According to Rhodes Abell of TPO8000, the skips were painted bright orange to ensure visibility, and decorated with cheerful handprints by children from Noddy Preschool.

The initiative received generous support from local businesses. Roar Construction and Lowveld Mobile Cranes each sponsored a skip. “Their contribution is a testament to the community spirit in White River. Residents are already noticing the positive impact. Previously littered areas are now much tidier,” said Abell.
The City of Mbombela has also come on board, committing to empty the skips when they are full.
The TPO8000 team has pledged to regularly monitor and clean around the skip sites to ensure they remain effective in the long run. “The team’s ongoing commitment is a valuable and practical way of addressing the town’s waste challenges. This is a really positive and practical solution to an ongoing issue,” Abell added.

The two skips are just the beginning of TPO8000’s mission to create a cleaner and more environmentally conscious White River.
A third skip, sponsored by Jaco Putter of the Witrivier Geloofsentrum, will be added soon. Community members are encouraged to use the skips responsibly, to avoid damaging them, and to continue supporting efforts to maintain a cleaner town for all.
“The combined efforts of TPO8000, local businesses and the municipality are setting a strong example of what can be achieved when a community comes together for the common good,” said Abell.
