Mayor launches R23m electrification project in Praktiseer

The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of March 2026.

The Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality’s (FTLM) mayor, Eddie Maila, is optimistic that the FTLM will win the service delivery battle.
Maila was speaking during the introduction of a contractor tasked with electrifying 1 900 homes in Mountain Square, Praktiseer on Mandela Day, July 18.

The contractors were introduced to the community.

This project comes a fortnight after Maila introduced access road contracts in Ga-Mokgotho and Praktiseer Shushumela. He handed over two contractors to erect an 8km access road in Shushumela on July 3. He continued to introduce another two contractors for a 6km access road at Ga-Mokgotho Village the following day.

The new Mountain Square electricity project is estimated to cost R23m and is scheduled to be completed within eight months.

Introducing the project site manager, Kabelo Sebapu, Maila said the project steering committees will soon be appointed and the work would start as soon as possible.

He once again warned community members not to destabilise progress on municipal projects.

Community members at the event.

“Most of the unfinished projects are disrupted by community members who don’t want development and their interest is to enrich themselves. They don’t care about service delivery to the masses. Be vigilant, and don’t allow them opportunities to disrupt this electrification project. Ours is simple, to ensure people in the FTLM access proper services from the government. When it comes to service delivery, we won’t compromise – tsotsis disrupting projects will not stand a chance.”

He said the project will create employment and business opportunities for the community and everyone must follow due process to benefit.

The mayor indicated that the responsibility of the project steering committees is to monitor the work and ensure smooth operation.
