Manhunt for Marloth fugitive intensifies

Ferdi Visser is wanted for murder, sexual assault and violating bail and parole conditions.

A substantial reward of between R100 000 and R350 000 is available to anyone who provides information leading to the arrest of fugitive Ferdi Visser.

He is wanted in connection with the murder of John ‘Matambu’ Dercksen, sexual assault and violations of bail and parole conditions.

A private investigator, who asked to remain anonymous, has been appointed by Visser’s victims.

They are offering the reward as a strong incentive for the public to help bring Visser to justice. “Visser has been on the run since absconding from the Tonga Community Corrections facility near Komatipoort in September last year. Law enforcement agencies are intensifying their efforts to locate him.”

At the time of his disappearance, Visser had only served half of a three-year sentence for an unrelated matter.

Matambu disappeared on March 16, but it is not yet clear whether he was killed on the same day. The sexual assault was committed in the Mbombela area.

The private investigator said that since the reward was announced, information has been received indicating that Visser may have been seen in Zimbabwe, Namibia, and Mozambique. “We are carefully following up on the tips, as we are aware some may attempt to provide false information to claim the reward,” he said.

He warned the public not to approach Visser, as he is considered extremely dangerous. Instead, anyone with information is encouraged to contact their nearest police station or the dedicated anonymous tip-off lines. All information would be treated with the strictest confidentiality.
