Spanner in the works for Mbombela’s illegal street mechanics

The CoM has committed to monitoring the areas to ensure that the mechanics don't return.

The City of Mbombela (CoM) by-law enforcement has successfully removed illegal mechanics who were operating on Stinkhout Crescent and next to the Old Pretoria Road.

They embarked on this operation last Thursday, July 21, following numerous complaints from business owners that these mechanics were obstructing business entrances, causing road congestion that hindered delivery trucks and leaving the area stained with engine oil.

The City’s by-law enforcement is specifically tasked with addressing such issues within the municipal area. The CoM’s spokesperson, Joseph Ngala, said that if people report such incidents, the municipality will respond accordingly.

“This is a moving target,” Ngala said.

“They will likely relocate or return once they notice our officers are no longer present.” He added that all the affected areas will be monitored to ensure that they do not come back again.

People experiencing the same problem can email customercare@mbombela.gov.za or contact the municipality’s call centre on 013 759 9301.
