Eskom to change all SPU meters in Mpumalanga

Work on the project has already started in Delmas and will begin shortly in Mbombela.

Eskom released a statement earlier this morning, August 11, to inform all its customers in Mpumalanga that the company plans to replace all SPU meters with smart meters.

The project has already begun in areas such as Delmas and will soon commence in Mbombela.
A smart meter is a new advanced digital electricity meter that records when, and how much, electricity is consumed and deducts from the amount consumed from a prepaid balance loaded by the customer.

Eskom requests all its affected customers to allow access for Eskom contractors in their property to implement the changes. An SMS will be sent to affected customers prior to the commencement of the work, and councillors in the identified areas will also be informed.

“For security reasons, please ensure that Eskom contractors clearly identify themselves as such. In case of doubt, contact Eskom directly,” the statement shared.

Always have the following information on hand when contacting Eskom:

• Your account number
• Contact details
• Premises identification or stand number
• Meter number
• Pole number.
