Free access during the week has also raised awareness of South Africa’s inclusive approach to conservation.

To kick off the 20th annual SA National Parks Week, South African National Parks (SANParks) will host a celebratory event at Kruger National Park on 21 September.

The annual SA National Parks Week runs from 22 to 26 September, extending to 27 and 28 September at selected parks. During this period, most of SANParks’ 21 national parks will offer free access.

The week has proven to be a successful national campaign, educating visitors about South Africa’s inclusive approach to conservation.

Free park access during this time does not include accommodation or other tourist activities. For specific dates and participating parks, visit the SANParks website.

Since its inception in 2006, National Parks Week has attracted day visitors to all participating parks.

SANParks also uses this week to foster pride in South Africa’s natural, cultural, and historical heritage, preserved through the national parks system.

Alongside the chance to experience South Africa’s rich heritage, the initiative highlights sustainable development practices made possible through partnerships with local communities, businesses, scientists, and tourists.
