In a shocking discovery on Tuesday, August 26, the remains of a man were found by community members on the R533 near Pilgrim’s Rest area. The SAPS team from the Ehlanzeni Diving Unit, and K9 Search and Rescue Unit from Lydenburg, helped to retrieve the body.

It is believed that the remains, found between the back of a Toyota double-cab bakkie and a tree, could belong to a 72-year-old man who was reported missing earlier this year in Pilgrim’s Rest.

The police said the body was in an advanced state of decomposition. Forensic tests, including a postmortem and DNA analysis, will be conducted as part of ongoing investigations.
