Ministry for meals needs new wheels

Ministry on Wheels has a bakkie that is 15 years old and will soon have 500 000km on the odometer.

The non-profit organisation, Ministry on Wheels, is in need of a new bakkie to continue doing its voluntary work of delivering food to the less fortunate.

The organisation has two vehicles that are used every day to pick up food, furniture and household goods which are distributed the following day.

Each family receives bread, meat, vegetables, fruit and other groceries in packages that weigh between 25 and 28kg.

“We regularly receive requests for clothes and shoes, and also beds and curtains, which we then distribute as the need arises and supplies are available,” Henry Tyrer, the finance manager of the organisation shared.

The organisation also supplies to groups, communities and nursing homes on a weekly basis, including Huis Betlehem, the MOTHS, Laeveld Rus 1 & 2, Oranjezicht, Katoen, Lekazi, Kingstonvale, Tekatoka, Tekwane North and The Living Rock.

“We receive about 2 800kg of supplies weekly and we keep records of everything that comes in and goes out,” Tyrer explained.

Ministry on Wheels has a bakkie that is 15 years old and will soon have 500 000km on the odometer. Both bakkies have recently been repaired, but a new one would ensure that the needy continue to receive their weekly and monthly supplies.
