UPDATE: Police launch manhunt for CIT robbers in White River

The number of suspects involved in the heist is still unknown.

Police are still searching for suspects involved in an attempted cash-in-transit (CIT) heist, yesterday, September 29, at Playbet in White River.

According to SAPS, preliminary investigations indicate that CIT guards were collecting cash at Playbet when they were accosted by armed suspects just outside the premises. One of the suspects reportedly pointed a firearm at the guard and demanded he hand over a money box. The guard complied and fled the scene on foot.

The suspects then fired several shots at the armoured vehicle and at the fleeing guard before making their escape in a white Toyota Hilux.

A female bystander was critically wounded by a stray bullet. She was stabilised at the scene before being taken to Themba Provincial Hospital in Kabokweni for treatment.

The police appeal to anyone with information that may assist in tracing the suspects to contact the nearest police station or call the Crime Stop number on 08600 10111. Information may also be shared via the MySAPS app. All information will be treated as confidential.
