Mbombela’s key roads get urgent repairs in massive pothole campaign
The City of Mbombela and We Care 4 Nelspruit are repairing key roads across town as they work toward filling 1 000 potholes before Christmas.
The repair of 1 000 potholes before Christmas is progressing after the City of Mbombela (CoM) collaborated with We Care 4 Nelspruit (WC4N).
According to the founder of WC4N, Pr TJ Maré, his team has begun work on Johanna Drive, while the CoM is tackling Dr Enos Mabuza Drive.
“We have already repaired more than 50 potholes and are planning on moving to the next street the municipality allocates to us. With the pace we are moving, we are going to reach the 1000 or even exceed it. Our plan is to ensure all potholes are fixed across the entire town to ensure the festive season is a pleasant one for visitors and residents,” he said

Maré pointed out that the municipality’s delay in delivering materials has been a hindrance and pleaded with the public for financial assistance to pay his team.
“We are only receiving the material to fill the potholes from CoM, but no payment,” he said.
CoM spokesperson Joseph Ngala confirmed that the city’s team is repairing potholes on Dr Enos Mabuza Drive and Bosch Street offered assurances that they would address all affected streets in Mbombela. “Everything is going well. We have a Jetpatcher and our team is on the ground fixing the potholes,” he said.
Ngala added that Bosch Street is also being attended to. Due to the high volume of vehicles that use the road daily, the team is working at night to ensure minimal traffic disruption.
He urged motorists to exercise caution when approaching areas where teams are working and said some streets will be closed while workers are on site.

Ngala further acknowledged that WC4N is working fast and said there there is no doubt the 1 000 target can be reached or even exceeded before Christmas.
One of the ward councillors, Thea Rix, said: “On behalf of the residents, I welcome the massive potholes being patched, as we have been calling on the municipality to repair them. With the rains, these potholes were getting deeper and damaging cars. We are hoping that they will do a quality job that will last for a long time.”
