Christmas Eve turns deadly in Masoyi tavern shooting
A Christmas Eve dispute at a Masoyi tavern turned deadly when a patron allegedly shot a DJ before taking his own life.
A festive celebration turned fatal when two men were killed at a tavern in Mganduzweni Trust in Masoyi near White River, on Christmas Eve, December 24.

According to reports, members of the Masoyi SAPS were patrolling along the R538 as part of festive season operations when they noticed a group of people rushing out of the tavern. Upon investigation, they found that a shooting had occurred and that two men had been injured. Emergency services were summoned, and both victims were certified dead at the scene.
Preliminary information indicates that the incident began when the DJ, who had been performing at the tavern, ended his set and started packing up his equipment. Patrons allegedly demanded that he continue playing music, citing that it was Christmas time. The DJ reportedly explained that it was time for the tavern to close, after which tensions escalated. A 28-year-old patron allegedly drew a firearm, shot the DJ, and then turned the weapon on himself.

A case of murder and an inquest have been opened. The firearm used in the incident has not yet been recovered. Preliminary reports further indicate that the tavern is licensed.
