SAPS chopper deployed as search for missing SANDF soldier continues

Search efforts continue for a SANDF soldier who is missing after being swept from a vehicle in the flooded Nkomazi River near Komatipoort.

The Ehlanzeni Diving Unit confirmed this morning, December 27, that search efforts are ongoing for a South African National Defence Force (SANDF) soldier who went missing in Macadamia near Komatipoort.

Pottie Potgieter of the diving unit said a SAPS helicopter has also been deployed to assist in the search.

Two SANDF soldiers were swept from their vehicle on December 25 while attempting to cross the heavily flooded Nkomazi River. One soldier’s body has been recovered, while the other remains missing.
