Cold, wet, and windy weather expected to hit Mpumalanga this weekend
Residents in Mpumalanga are urged to prepare for a spell of cold, wet, and windy weather expected from Friday through to Monday, April 20.

Residents in Mpumalanga are being urged to prepare for a spell of cold, wet, and windy weather expected to affect the province from Friday through to Monday, April 20, according to the South African Weather Service (SAWS).
The expected weather conditions are linked to the passage of two consecutive cold fronts making landfall over the western parts of South Africa.
These systems will initially impact the Western Cape and Northern Cape before spreading eastwards across the central and eastern interior over the weekend.
As the system reaches Mpumalanga, residents can expect a noticeable drop in daytime temperatures, accompanied by strong winds and scattered showers.
The combination of cold air and wind is likely to result in a pronounced wind chill effect, making conditions feel significantly colder than recorded temperatures.
Widespread cool to cold conditions are also expected across several other provinces, including the Free State, North West, Gauteng, and KwaZulu-Natal, where isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers have been forecast.
By Sunday, April 19, the cold, wet, and windy conditions are expected to intensify across the eastern and southern parts of the country, including Mpumalanga and surrounding regions. In the western interior, including parts of the Western and Northern Cape, temperatures are expected to drop sharply, with some high-lying areas likely to experience daytime temperatures between 10°C and 12°C.
In addition to inland conditions, marine conditions are expected to deteriorate, with wave heights along the coastline forecast to reach between four and five metres from Sunday into Monday.
Possible Impacts:
• Cold and windy conditions may make temperatures feel significantly lower than actual temperatures
• Localised flooding in low-lying areas and areas with poor drainage
• Slippery roads and reduced visibility affecting travel
• Disruptions to outdoor activities, including coastal and beach activities.
Safety Tips for Residents:
• Dress warmly and ensure homes are adequately heated
• Use heating devices safely to prevent fire hazards
• Drive cautiously on wet and slippery roads
• Avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall
• Secure loose outdoor items against strong winds
• Stay updated with official weather alerts from SAWS
SAWS continues to monitor the situation and urges the public to stay informed through official weather updates.
