Acornhoek murder: Ex-husband sentenced to 30 years
A late-night confrontation in Acornhoek ended in murder and a hefty prison term.
The Mhala Regional Court sentenced Emmanuel Tivane (48) to 30 years’ imprisonment on Monday, April 20.
The court heard that Tivane found his ex-wife with a male companion at a residence in Acornhoek, near the Ehlanzeni Technical College, on December 23, 2024 at about 03:00.

“He forcefully gained entry by throwing a brick at the door. It is reported that the accused was armed with two knives and proceeded to stab the male victim,” said Mpumalanga police spokesperson Colonel Mavela Masondo.

According to court records, after stabbing the victim, Tivane kidnapped his ex-wife, who was later rescued by the police. Her male companion was rushed to Tintswalo hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Tivane was sentenced to 15 years for murder, 10 years for assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, and 5 years for kidnapping. The court ordered that the sentences for assault and kidnapping run concurrently and he was declared unfit to possess a firearm.
