Traffic officer killed, 2 injured in N4 crash near Malalane

One traffic officer died and two were injured in a collision involving a suspected speeding Audi SUV at the N4 and R570 intersection near Malalane.

Tragedy struck on May 15 when a collision at the intersection of the N4 and R570 near Malalane left one traffic officer dead and two others hospitalised.

According to authorities, a suspected speeding Audi SUV collided with a hatchback carrying three traffic officers as it joined the N4 from the R570. The SUV struck the hatchback on the passenger side, forcing it into the opposite lane where it narrowly avoided a head-on crash with an oncoming truck.

The N4 was closed for more than an hour, while traffic moved slowly for an additional two hours as emergency services cleared the scene.

The occupants of the SUV, a mother and child, sustained minor injuries and were transported to the nearest hospital.
Police have confirmed that investigations are under way to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the crash.
