Mpumalanga police net driver with R3m dagga haul

A routine police patrol near Kaapmuiden led to the arrest of a 37-year-old man after officers found more than 500kg of dagga in his bakkie.

A 37-year-old man was arrested after police found him in possession of a large consignment of dagga on the N4 near Kaapmuiden on Wednesday, May 20.


According to Mpumalanga police spokesperson Captain Mpho Nonyane-Mpe, officers stationed at Kaapmuiden were conducting routine patrols along the N4 when they noticed a suspicious vehicle parked on the roadside.

“The vehicle, a brown Toyota Hilux fitted with a canopy and bearing Mpumalanga registration plates, drew the attention of officers, who stopped to investigate,” said Nonyane-Mpe.

During the inspection, police discovered 41 bags of dagga loaded in the bakkie.

The confiscated drugs weighed approximately 502.6kg and had an estimated street value of more than R3m.


The driver was immediately arrested and charged with dealing in dagga.


He is expected to appear in the Barberton Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, May 21.
