City of Mbombela mayor hands over community hall and bulk water scheme

Residents in Numbi and Ntsikazi North now have access to a new community hall and improved water infrastructure.

The executive mayor of the City of Mbombela, Cllr Sibongile Makhushe-Mazibuko, officially handed over the newly constructed Numbi Community Hall and the Ntsikazi North Bulk Water Scheme Phase 1B on Tuesday, June 23.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Makhushe-Mazibuko said the projects demonstrate the municipality’s commitment to addressing community needs and investing in infrastructure that improves the quality of life of residents.

“The Numbi Community Hall will serve as a multi-purpose facility, providing a venue for public meetings, youth programmes, cultural activities, training workshops and various social events. Residents have long called for a suitable community facility that can accommodate gatherings and community initiatives,” she said.

The new Ntsikazi North bulk water scheme that was handed over.

“The completion of Phase 1B of the Ntsikazi North Bulk Water Scheme represents another important step towards addressing water challenges experienced by communities in the area. This pump station is designed to ensure a consistent water supply to communities. It has the capacity to pump and supply more than 36 million litres of water per day. The project is aimed at improving water supply infrastructure and ensuring that residents have access to a more reliable and sustainable supply of water,” said Makhushe-Mazibuko.

She encouraged community members to protect the newly completed infrastructure from vandalism and misuse, stressing that these facilities belong to the people and are intended to serve both present and future generations.
