Another successful thrift market for local church

The market's success opened the opportunity for more regular thrift markets.

Friday evening was buzzing as hundreds of Lowvelders attended Church Unlimited’s second thrift market on June 12.

From clothing to books and jewelry, attendees were treated to a diverse selection of high-quality products, ranging from vintage items to well-known brands.

With thrifting becoming a global trend, it is no surprise that people flocked to the market to see the treasures on sale. According to the organisers, there is a need for markets like this. Ettienne Garnett-Bennet, the spokesperson for Church Unlimited, said that they were extremely satisfied with the turnout.

“I feel that markets like this hold advantages for everyone. People can get rid of items they no longer use, while someone else gives them a second life,” Garnett-Bennet said.

He also explained that it is a sustainable practice. Along with the advantages for the environment, buyers and sellers, events like this help bring people together and allow them to spend quality time with friends and family.

“I think it was another way for the community to spend time with each other. Everyone enjoyed the stalls and the good food.”

Garnett-Bennet said that people have already asked when the next market will be. Church Unlimited hopes to make this a bi-annual event.
