Mpumalanga MEC assesses Lebombo Border operations ahead of March and March protests
Increased movement is expected at the Lebombo Border Post ahead of the national protest against undocumented foreign nationals.
Mpumalanga MEC for community safety, security and liaison Jackie Macie issued a stern warning that security forces are on high alert and anyone who breaks the law will be dealt with accordingly.
He was speaking during a visit to the Lebombo Port of Entry on Monday, June 29, where movement across the border from South Africa into Mozambique has reportedly increased significantly since Thursday, June 26.

The increase in the number of people at the border is believed to be linked to the anticipated protest against undocumented foreign nationals scheduled for June 30.
“During the visit, the MEC was briefed that increased traveller movement had been recorded since last Thursday and continued through the weekend into Monday morning. At the time of the visit, traffic was flowing smoothly, with no disturbances reported at the port of entry,” said departmental spokesperson Moeti Mmusi.
“MEC Macie reassured residents and visitors that security forces remain on high alert and that anyone who breaks the law will be dealt with accordingly. Members of the public are encouraged to report any suspicious activities or wrongdoing to the police without delay,” added Mmusi.

He said Macie emphasised that it was business as usual in Mpumalanga.
“All government facilities, including licensing centres across the province, remain operational, and residents are encouraged to access services as normal,” said Macie.
