A 2.5m black mamba hiding in a Goromane family’s home was safely removed and released back into the wild.

Well-known local snake catcher Cockroach Mdluli safely rescued a 2.5m black mamba after it entered a house in Goromane near Hazyview on July 9.

According to Mdluli, he received a call from the Mhlongo family after they noticed the highly venomous snake entering their home and hiding beneath roof sheeting that was on the floor.

“I advised the family to keep an eye on the snake but not to attempt to catch or kill it. When I arrived, I found it still hiding under the material and was able to safely capture it,” said Mdluli.

The black mamba was later released back into the wild in the Kruger National Park.

Mdluli said he was relieved that neither the family nor the snake were hurt. “I am happy that both the snake and the homeowners were unharmed. I continue to encourage people not to kill snakes but to call a professional snake catcher to remove them safely,” he said.
