Two men, aged 33 and 26, face drug dealing charges after police seized 16 bales of dagga in Mbombela on Tuesday, July 28.

According to Mpumalanga police spokesperson Colonel Mavela Masondo, the suspects were arrested by members of the White River K9 Unit and the Provincial Detectives Organised Crime Investigation team.

Masondo said the operation was conducted after intelligence gathered by police led officers to the suspects.

Police confiscate bakkie and drugs

“During the operation, police confiscated 16 bales of dagga with an estimated street value of R2m and also seized a Toyota Hilux single-cab bakkie that was allegedly used in the commission of the crime,” he said.

The confiscated drugs and vehicle have been seized as part of the ongoing investigation.

Suspects due in court

The two suspects are expected to appear in the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court soon, where they will face a charge of dealing in dagga.

Masondo added that the arrest forms part of ongoing efforts to combat organised crime and the illegal drug trade in Mpumalanga. Investigations into the matter are continuing.
