3 arrested in Masoyi following ATM robbery near Mbombela
ROC camera tracking and a high-speed pursuit lead to the recovery of stolen cash and the interception of the getaway vehicle near Hazyview.
Three suspects were arrested on the R538 in Masoyi after robbing an elderly woman at an ATM near Mataffin in Mbombela on Tuesday, August 4.
The arrests were made through a collaborative operation between Divergent Ops and the police.
High-speed pursuit towards Hazyview
According to Ghost of Divergent Ops, after the suspects robbed the elderly woman and fled the scene, security personnel spotted them and immediately relayed the information with the assistance of Mpumalanga Transport Inspectorate officers.
“A joint operation was launched without delay, and the suspect vehicle was identified in White River via ROC cameras, heading towards Hazyview,” he said.
“Pursuit teams mobilised immediately for a high-speed interception, and the suspects were stopped just before entering Hazyview.”
Ghost added that the stolen money was recovered in full and handed over to the police, together with the suspects and the vehicle used in the crime.
Victim assisted to lodge complaint
While security teams were securing the suspects in Masoyi, Mpumalanga Transport Inspectorate officers, with the help of a community member near the scene, located the victim and brought her to Nelspruit Police Station to open a case.
Mpumalanga police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane confirmed that the three suspects were arrested and charged with robbery, and are expected to appear in the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court on August 5.
