Man shot dead outside Hazyview after-tears gathering
Police are appealing for public assistance as detectives investigate a fatal weekend shooting in the Masoyi precinct.
A 31-year-old man has died after being shot multiple times while parked outside an after-tears gathering in Jerusalem Trust, near Hazyview.
Mqobi “Mzulu” Ntshayintshayi was sitting in a vehicle along the main road when he was attacked on August 15 at about 20:00. The area falls under the Masoyi policing precinct.

Police say at the time of the shooting, Ntshayintshayi was parked next to a house where he was attending an ‘after-tears’ gathering – a custom where people mark the funeral of a community member shortly after the burial with a braai and drinks. It is not clear whose funeral had taken place earlier that day.
Police open murder investigation
“Upon arrival at the scene, police found a man inside a car,” said Mpumalanga police spokesperson Colonel Mavela Masondo. “He had multiple gunshot wounds and paramedics called to the scene declared him dead.”
Masondo confirmed police have opened a murder investigation.
He said the motive for the murder remains unknown and appealed to anyone with information to contact Crime Stop on 0860 010 111 or use the MySAPS app.
MEC condemns provincial violence
MEC for community safety, security and liaison Jackie Macie condemned the killing and urged law enforcement to pursue those responsible.

“We are gravely concerned about the level of violence in some parts of the province. We condemn the latest incident in the strongest terms,” Macie said. “We cannot continue to allow criminals to hold us to ransom. Our communities deserve better.”
