Multi-agency team targets illegal trading at Lebombo Border Post
Motorists share photos online as heavy machinery demolishes informal structures along the roadside.
An operation led by the Nkomazi Local Municipality today, September 11, removed illegal hawker structures at the Lebombo Border Post.

Officials from the SANDF, SAPS and Home Affairs were part of the operation. Motorists travelling through the area shared photos and social media posts showing construction vehicles removing the structures. Some posts also claimed that the structures were later burned.
Municipality plans further operations
Nkomazi spokesperson Mbuso Malale said that the operation followed after numerous hawkers were illegally building structures and selling goods next to the road.

“The informal traders were given notices to vacate the port periphery. We will continue with operations in February next year as the government intends on upgrading the Lebombo Border Post,” he said.
