Country singer Tommy Dell is recovering well in hospital after sustaining multiple fractures in an R40 crash, family spokesperson Ignaz Streicher confirmed.

Dell is also a radio presenter at Bok Radio in Cape Town. The station has since started a BackaBuddy campaign to assist with his medical bills after his hospital plan was exhausted.

Bok Radio has appealed to the public for donations to keep him at the facility until he is strong enough to be discharged. According to the station, the cost of care is between R80 000 and R100 000 a day. More than R200 000 has been raised so far, and the campaign target is set at R1 million.

“Tommy Dell is such a positive, loving human being who will do anything for anybody, and he has touched so many hearts with his music and positive attitude over the years that we believe we will be able to reach this target,” the station said.

Two die in R40 collision

Dell was travelling with country music promoter Mara van der Bergh and her assistant Samantha Fuller from a country fundraiser evening at Bosjol on September 5 when the accident occurred.

According to the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison spokesperson Moeti Mmusi, their sedan reportedly collided with a bakkie. Van der Bergh and Fuller were both killed in the crash.
