VIDEO: Alleged illegal miners open fire on N4 in Schoemanskloof
Police step up patrols in Mpumalanga as officers search for gunmen who fled the scene.
A roadside shootout forced the temporary closure of the N4 at Schoemanskloof today, September 29, after alleged illegal miners opened fire.
The Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison advised motorists to use alternative routes for their safety.

Police investigate roadside shooting
The cause of the shootout or who is involved remains unclear.
Brigadier General Donald Mdhluli from the Mpumalanga SAPS said the police could not find anything after the shooting and they suspect the shooters fled the scene after seeing the police.
“We continue to monitor the area and hope to find out what the cause of the shootout was,” said Mdhluli.
