The following letter was addressed to Martin Pearson, City of Mbombela Local Municipality horticulturist, on Friday, August 17.
It is a disgrace to drive through Vuilspruit (as we call it these days). There is litter everywhere. I have asked the municipality before to clean Banket and Percy Fitzpatrick streets, but nothing happened. Then I took it on myself and at my own expense to clean these streets.
At all the entrance roads, litter is strewn everywhere. Even the airport road, where lots of foreign visitors enter the Lowveld to visit our region, is filthy.
What must they think? Do not exclude the Kaapsehoop road. I see a lot of workers in orange overalls hanging around in large groups around Crossing Centre. Why don’t you spread them out in groups of two to clean the streets in the suburbs?
I must also compliment you and your gardeners on the gardens. It looks great. I would like to give them cool drinks and compliment them personally with their work. And also thanks for cleaning the open spaces from all the weeds like bug weed and lantana.
The only problem is that the stumps should have been treated with herbicides, because they will flush again and the growth cycle is repeated.
