Chess players show some skill
The De Goede Top 10 Chess Tournament, five Rounds Swiss was held at the agri college on Saturday.

It was presented by Ehlanzeni Chess and served as selection criteria for provincial colours.
Andeon Pringle (u/10) of Laerskool Bergland came in first with 1 105 points. Curro’s Michiel Eksteen finished second with 1 089 and Suné de Preez of Laerskool Lydenburg in third place with 1 111. The two u/12 boys of Bergland, Kyle Macdonald and Viktor Styger came in first and second place with 1 295 and 1 131 points respectively. Pierre Janse van Rensburg of Laeveld took the silver with 1 092. It was a close call in the u/14 category. Theo Ngewenya of Bergland won the gold with 30 points ahead of Alexander Maartens of Laerskool Sabie with 1 375 points. Jaden Minnaar, also from Bergland took bronze with 1 170 points.
The u/16 Julia Visser of Hoërskool Sybrand van Niekerk came in second place with 1 276. Braam Visser of Hoërskool Nelspruit bagged the gold with 1 554 and Dumisnai Sibiya, also from Sybrand van Niekerk finished in third with 1 169.
In the u/18 category, the learners of Sabie made Sybrand van Niekerk’s proud. Sandile Ngwenya came in first with 1 467 and Christopher Maartens finished second with 1 206 points.
Rikus Henning of Hoërskool Nelspruit got a bronz medal with 1 164 points.
Alyssa Chetty won the trophy for best senior player and Tshepiso Maseko was
awarded best junior girl.
