Lydenburg men’s hockey team is going places
The Lydenburg men's hockey team that competed in the first league of the Mpumalanga Hockey Association competition recently, beat their opponents, LVCC, by 4-0 in Nelspruit.

Petrus Malaka scored three goals and Donald Masuku one.
The men started with hockey development at Marambane Primary and are using the
field for practice. Zizwe General Trade leveled the pitch and sponsored the
team’s travelling costs to Nelspruit. Chairman Abram Mkabela, thanked Kobie
Pruis of Zizwe for the support. Members of the team also did their part in the
community when they volunteered to paint and assist with the improvements and
renovation of Enicca Makhge’s RDP house after her operation.
One of the
players, Andries Selala, represented Mpumalanga in the provincial country
districts tournament in Pietermaritzburg, but unfortunately the provincial team
lost in the semifinals. They look forward to next season and are planning hockey
development at local high schools in Mashishing. They will still need the
assistance of the community for hockey sticks. Mkabela invites people to donate
their old hockey sticks. They can be delivered to the Steelburger/Lydenburg News
office. People interested in playing hockey can contact Mkabela on 073-025-8019.
