Silver and gold for Lowveld bowlers

Lowveld bowlers walked away with gold and silver during the Mpumalanga Singles Championship that was recently hosted at the Middelburg Country Club.

Veronica Coertzen and Lynn Nicholas proved our area boasts some of the best bowlers in the country.

They were divided in two sections, section one and two that consisted out of four players each.
The eight players were from Central, Highveld and Lowveld. Two days of unbearable heat and tough competition followed.
It took willpower and determination to make it to the end. The
senior bowlers made sure every bowl counted and every point was important.
Three games on the first day were played and Coertzen faced her own teammate from the Lowveld, Beryl Biggs.

Coertzen maintained the upper hand and managed to beat her 21/19. In the second round Coertzen had to battle it out against a player from Highveld but after a struggle getting the right line and grass the Lowvelder took the game with a score of 21/12. A bowler from Central was next in line but Coertzen once again made it and won 21/8.

All bowlers demonstrated incredible skills and each player delivered her best. Coertzen and Nicholas pushed through to the final on day two and had to play for a first and a second place.
Coertzen was crowned as the best senior single female bowls player in
Mpumalanga.
