Skills to perfect yourself

Since we live in an extremely harsh environment, anything can happen.

The Nelspruit Wadokai Karatedo and Teakwando Dojo Club has started self-defence classes. They attract all ages every Tuesday and Thursday at Shonalanga Sports Hall.

People have a perception that when you talk about such classes, it is only about fighting, but Mpumalanga Mirror has learnt that there’s more to that because it teaches one about morals, developing fitness and self-control.

It plays a very significant role in social etiquette and fighting skills for self-defence which are the foundation of Wadokia Karatedo.
Speaking to this publication, Job Magagula, one of the trainers said, “We have introduced this class this year and we have noticed that it has attracted a lot of people which shows that it is important in life to know how to defend or protect yourself as a person. If you want peace, you must be prepared to defend yourself.

There are so many predators who take advantage of women and men in our communities. We have seen on TV how predators rape and kill our brothers and sisters.

Those people are doing all kinds of bad things. They do not live up to our
standard.” One of the people who attends the classes, Buhle “Drama Queen” Ndlovu of Ligwalagwala FM, said, “The reason why I chose to do self-defence was because it also caters for women and learning to protect yourself ia important.
Women are raped and domestic violence is also a challenge. I once had a stalker and from that I learnt that I needed to learn how to protect myself.”
