The bass season kicks off in style

The first leg of the Lowveld Bass Trail had a great start at Klipkopje Dam on Saturday February 8 with 36 boats competing.

The majority of fish were caught in the morning while it was still cloudy, but as the skies cleared, the fish became very finicky and most teams struggled to catch their limit.
Those who succeeded used small baits pitched into the reed beds. By using a slow retrieve, they managed to entice some of the fish to bite. The two biggest ones of the day came from the main dam where the water was relatively clear.
Team Midas Sport caught the first beauty of 2,485kg and team Conway Marine a second of 1,270kg.
At the weigh-in, newcomers, team Pumba finished in first place with
10 220 points and walked away with R5 000 cash. Midas finished second with 9 930 winning R3 000 and finishing close behind them was team Thermocline with 9 800 points receiving R2 000.
“There were loads of other prizes handed out all the way down to the tenth spot. A big thank you to all the participants and the sponsors for making the day such a success,” said Shaun Fredriksson of Lowveld Bass.
