Women gather on the greens for three days of fun

The popular White River Ladies Classic Golf tournament was held over three days from February 10 to 12.

This tournament was started eight years ago by Carole
Fox and grows every year. “It takes only 10 days after the event to fill up
teams for the next year,” says Fox “That’s how popular this event has become. It
is all about having fun!”
This year 104 women gathered at the golf club in
their best outfits with a welcome drink in hand. The opening ceremony was held
on the green and the best-dressed team and best cart were voted for.
The best
cart belonged to the Golf Tramps that comprised Carole Fox and Riette Dolezal.
The Mac Sisters won the original and The Swinging Sisters the smart-dress
section, The format for the first day was a fun competition with a four-ball
alliance with a twist. The second and third days were of a more serious nature
and the White River Ladies Classic Trophy in a betterball format. There were
winners each day with an overall winner was announced at the close of the
tournament.
On Tuesday there was a six-hole putting competition sponsored by
The Pro Shop. It consisted of very long putts (from six to 20 metres) and
everyone had to go through obstacles. This competition was won by Lizette
Leewner with 13 putts, was second and Juanita Dreyer on 14.
A prize-giving
evening was held on Tuesday was sponsored by John Chandler of BMW Eastview. A
gala dinner also took place during which an auction was held and donations
collected for a worthy charity. Debbie Schlosser handed over R40 000 to Rustig
Old Age Home.
