Ladies of all sorts and sizes compete for the honours

The Grove SUPERSPAR Ladies Race took place under excellent weather conditions for running.

For the Grove SUPERSPAR Ladies Race some runners turned up with green, pink and blue hair, or tutus and some male athletes were all dressed up in skirts and dresses to suit the theme. The race took place on Saturday morning – the weather was excellent for running and the field a bevy of beauties. Legogote Villagers hosted the race for the second time, last year being the first.

“Despite the date coinciding with the local interhigh, more than 400 ladies ran or walked either 5km or 10km. It was an entertaining field of runners with contestants making an effort to dress up,” said one of the organisers, Janie Bethwaite.

Amongst these athletes, were the “ladies in drag” who looked very attractive indeed. The team event was new to the race and added extra fun to it as they competed for prizes for the fastest time or the best dressed.

In the latter category, SUPERSPAR ladies’ financials beat the drag ladies IT. The Mpumalanga running store won the fastest-time prize. The proceeds of the male as well as the team entries, will be donated to GRIP.

“Thank you to Andrew Christie and his people from The Grove for the sponsorship and assisting to organise the race. It was a wonderful event with lots of fun,” Bethwaite continued.
