Several medals for swimmers

The announcement of the establishment of a new annual interprovincial schools swimming championships to fill the void created by the cancellation of the SA Schools Swimming Championships, was welcomed by swimmers across Mpumalanga.

The inaugural event took take place in Polokwane on February 28 and
March 1.
The provincial schools swimming team consisted of 86 of Mpumalanga’s cream of the crop – 42 boys and 44 girls, including three disabled swimmers.
The team won 33 gold, 44 silver and 35 bronze medals overall.

“All the members were very grateful for the opportunity to partake in such a great event. They would also like to thank the coaches, team managers,
chaperones and last but not least, their very generous sponsors, Mpumalanga Province Swimming, Mediclinic Nelspruit, Powerade and Mopani Pharmacy, which managed to get involved in such a short period of time, for their support.

It really makes all the effort and countless hours put into the hundreds of
kilometres of swimming, worth it,” said Mechelle Steyn, the public-relations officer and marketing executive of Mpumalanga Province Swimming.
Any individual or company willing to become involved as a sponsor for 2015, can contact Steyn on mechellesteyn@gmail.com
