Valencia cyclist’ receive award at TRAC Cycle Tour

A Eritrean cyclists of MTN Feeders, put on one of the best performances seen in this year’s TRAC Cycle Tour to come out tops in the overall standings of the u/23 race.

This rider who won Stage 1, was the most consistent cyclists throughout the 4-day competition, ending with the best overall time of 11:22:15 hours. He was followed by another  u/23 cyclist who raised eyebrows this week – Ryan Gibbons of Europcar – who although until yesterday led the overall standings was beaten on the last day, clocking a total time of 11:25:10.

Third overall was Nicholas Dougal of MTN Feeders who finished in 11:27:30.

These final standings were the result of a grilling Stage 4 which took its toll on some riders who only yesterday were still top contenders. The 96km final stage – which saw riders climb 1 000 metres in the first 25km – was won by Kevin Patten of Westvaal in 2:29:47.

The overall top performers in today’s junior race were also the overall top juniors in the Tour. Gustav Basson of ASG displayed fine form throughout the week, ending the Tour with a total time of 10:35:25 after winning today’s 96km stage in 2:41:54. Second overall, and also in the final stage, was Stefan de Bod riding for Cycleworld. His overall time was 10:41:59 after crossing today’s finish line in 2:48:52 while Kent Main was third overall with 10:42:37 after clocking 2:48:52 in the final stage.
