Hockey star shows learners the ropes
The world-record goalscorer in hockey, Pietie Coetzee recently visited the town to show upcoming hockey stars at Hoërskool Lydenburg the finer ropes on how to become a professional player.
Coetzee, who was born in Bloemfontein in 1978 attended the Rand Afrikaans University in Johannesburg to pursue her hockey career.
She later represented South Africa in the 2000 as well as 2004 Summer Olympics. Coetzee, who was assisted by Tanith Drake and Tsoanelo Pholo, also an SA player, left the 125 learners in awe with her skills, especially her drag flick which is arguably one of the fastest in the world.
Hoërskool Lydenburg has already booked Coetzee for next year and plans to invite other schools as well.
