Lowveld High own the field

It is unusual for a school that plays on Astro Turf to be beaten by a team that is used to grass fields.

However, this happened when Lowveld High’s hockey players were hosted by Uplands College on Saturday
May 24.

The home side dominated by winning the first four fixtures. In the first team on the Astro, it took LHS players approximately 40 minutes to adapt to the surface.

The visitors were under a lot of pressure and Uplands took the lead into the break with 1-0.

However, they came back in the second half with Felicia Nhlapo putting the ball into the box to equalise the score.

Within two minutes Uplands took the lead again for a second time. Lowveld then put a lot of pressure on their opponents’ defense and were rewarded with a penalty strike which Hope Nkosi converted into a goal.

Great spirit, guts and fantastic hockey skills were shown; a showcase of excellent school hockey. With five minutes left on the clock, LHS scored a third and final goal by Hope and won 3-2.
