Local learners excel in chess development tournament
Local learners competed in a chess development tournament at the Ehlanzeni District Offices, KaNyamazane on Saturday April 26.

This tournament was held under the auspices of Ehlanzeni Chess Committee.
In the A category, Eddie Bhila won with five points. Two local players, Simon Attwood of Penryn and Pierre Dorey of Curro finished in the top five. Michiel Eksteen also of Curro, came second in the B category with four points. Fourth place went to Luke Sproule of Penryn, also with four points rating 822.

One of the largest tournaments in the history of South African chess, the CAPA Blanca Chess Tournament (FIDE – International Chess Federation) is currently taking place in Pretoria (from April 25 to May 4).

he event is funded mainly by the Kasparov Chess Foundation. The main objective is to give players in Africa the opportunity to acquire titles and compete more regularly at a higher level.
Ehlanzeni will also be represented by a number of players. Grand master and 20-year world champion, Gary Kasparov will personally attend the prize-giving.
