BURGERSFORT – Thapelo Maphori (33) recently completed another one of his running ventures when he ran from Mecklenburg to Johannesburg. Along the way he motivated the youth and others to join in the fight against woman and child abuse.

Thapelo started running at a young age with the hope of achieving great things. He reaches for the stars and dreams of becoming a champion runner some day. Thapelo doesn’t mind the rocks life throws at him and says without the hardships he wouldn’t be able to appreciate the small things.

“It is becoming harder as I need help to achieve my dreams. I can’t do it alone. If someone will back me I know I can reach my goals,” he says.

Thapelo grew up in a very poor family and is unemployed. He doesn’t want money as a form of sponsorship but pleads for any kind of job. “I need someone, maybe one of the mines, to help with registration fees, accommodation and transport to and from running events like marathons. I also need a licence number for running and would love to become part of a running club or team,” says Thapelo.

He mainly runs 800m, 100m and long distances. He completed the Comrades Marathon in 2013 with a running time of 10:34,54.

Thapelo have completed several races and don’t mind bragging with his medals. “I just want to run but life’s circumstances are trying to make it impossible.”

“I am a good, kind Christian man without any criminal record. My wish is to run for the rest of my life against crime and child abuse.”

If anyone can help Thapelo or would like him to join your running club he can be contacted on 079-272-2228 or 072-514-0170.
