Vermeulen happy to be home
The loose forward of the Springboks, Duane Vermeulen will play with a lot more of excitement when the team take on Wales at Mbombela Stadium on Saturday.
Vermeulen is a former pupil and rugby player of Hoërskool Nelspruit. “It is great to be back in my home town! It was very special to see all the support at the airport on Sunday – my grandparents were also there to welcome me.”
Vermeulen’s greatest memories of his rugby career in high school, was the Mpumalanga finals and the time growing as a player. “It is always great to win a few trophy’s. It is nice to see old friends from school and to know that there is a lot of local fans supporting us.”
The Boks had their first training session on Monday at Mbombela’s B-field. “We concentrated a lot on detail yesterday afternoon to do the execution better. We were very happy with the first half against Wales as we converted opportunities, but we struggled the second half,” said assistant coach Ricardo Loubscher.
The Green and Gold has their first open training session to the public this afternoon at 15:30 to 17:00. Make your way to the stadium’s B-field to see the boys in action.
