Local riders excel in Das Auto
The second leg of the Das Auto MTB series got underway at Penryn College on Saturday June 21, with 305 riders testing their will and determination on the cross-country circuit.

It consisted of three races divided into categories of 15,25km and 50km. Terry Ryan came in first overall in the 15km race, Blessing Moima achieved the same in 25km, while JP Jung was the first one to cross the line in the 50km race.
Monique Swart claimed the female overall category in the 15km race, with her sister Mandie Swart coming first overall in the female 25km category and Dalene van der Leek in 50km.
The route was fast paced with gradual climbs giving the riders the opportunity to develop a fluent rhythm. As with each mountain-bike track there is bound to be obstacles of some sort that pose a challenge, but most of the riders used their pedalling power to beat it.
Bridges over streams and the single- flowing track also provided them with a scenic route, while in competition with their foes or enjoying the ride with friends.
According to event organiser, George Bell, they were enjoying the route and pitching in numbers to stake their claim in the series.
“This is the second one this year and everyone seems to enjoy the route. There have been no negative comebacks or injuries as of yet,” said Bell.
The next race is on July 5 at Penryn College and starts at 08:00. Enquiries: George Bell on 072-500-0197.
